Spring Clean Your Ag-Bagger
With the start of spring, it marks the time to start thinking about your Ag-Bagger and getting ready for the first crop of forage season. Now is the time to pull your machine out, carefully review your working parts and inspect your machine to ensure you are ready to roll once forage cutting starts.
Take a look at your rotor and rotor teeth, how are the rotor tines looking? Do the rotor teeth appear thin or worn out? Tine caps can be welded to your rotor teeth to provide more surface area and keep your rotor in high capacity.
Check your main bearings on your rotor, conveyor, drive chain and cable drum shafts. Ensure they are greased and clean for the start of season.
Review your cables and cable drum. Check your cable drum brakes, and ensure you have a clean brake surface to grip the cable drum. If your cables have any frays, replace them with a new set.
Inspect your chains for tension control. Your conveyor chain tension should be set to have a 2-inch lift at the center of the conveyor. The conveyor drive chain and hydraulic pump drive chain tension should be set at maximum defection of 1/8th inch.
For oils and lubricants, check your hydraulic oil tank level, and hydraulic oil should be changed every 250 hours. Your gearbox oil should be changed annually as well. Review your machine’s operation manual for your recommended fluids. Find your operation manual here. Now is a good time to lubricate the rotor drive, hydraulic pump drive and gearbox output shaft coupler chains before the season starts.
